Tanks be Prejudiced When You Pull

Posted by Dezdemone in

Your momma told you not to judge people by how they dress, right? Well, in the case of a bunch of big bad monsters in World of Warcraft she was wrong.

One of the best questions I've gotten lately is how do you know at a glance what abilities a mob is going to use against you? This is a very valid question!

We need to know if a mob is likely to heal, or if they're going to cast or be melee. This type of information is vital to our ability to mark and manage a pull. So, I am going to give you a short list of broad generalizations to help you determine what you're up against.

  • If it has spiky shoulderpads and a dress it's probably a warlock
  • If it's wearing a garish bright primary colored dress and carrying a staff it's probably a mage.
  • If it's wearing a pastel dress it's probably a healer
  • If it has a shield, sword and a mana bar it's probably a paladin
  • If it has a rage bar it's probably a warrior
  • If it has an energy bar it's probably a rogue
  • If it's female and it's not carrying a shield it's probably a caster.

Another quick way to know is by it's name, ie: Magister = Mage, Physician = Healer... etc.

I am certain there are more good generalizations out there. Point em' out in the comments if you think of one!
